SRD R370 Grant 2026: Apply, Check Status, Fix Declines

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant took over from the COVID-19 R350 grant. It pays R370 a month. You can get it if you have no job. You must also pass the means test each month. It is open to South African adults, permanent residents and some refugees. In 2026 the Minister of Social Development pushed the grant out to March 2027. So SASSA checks your details month by month. Permanent grants stay fixed once approved. SRD does not. Your status can change each month. Income checks, UIF checks and bank checks all feed into it. This section walks you through the whole SRD flow. How to apply on srd.sassa.gov.za. What each status means: approved, pending, declined, referred and cancelled. How to change your bank details. How to lodge the 90-day ITSAA appeal when a month is declined. And how the "you got a job" and "alternative income identified" declines work. Did your status jump from approved to declined? Start with the guide on decline reasons.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my SRD R370 status?

Go to srd.sassa.gov.za. Log in with your 13-digit ID and the cellphone number on your application. Confirm the OTP. Then read the status for this month. WhatsApp 082 046 8553 or the free line 0800 60 10 11 give you the same answer.

Why is my SRD status still pending after weeks?

Pending means a check is still stuck. It could be an ID mismatch at Home Affairs, an open UIF check, or a bank account that did not verify. Give it 5 to 10 business days. Is it still pending after your normal pay date? Call 0800 60 10 11 with your ID ready. Ask them which check is not done.

What does “Alternative Income Source Identified” mean?

SASSA checks your income every month. It found money above R624 in your bank. Or money from UIF, SARS or another grant. Cash from family often sets it off. So does casual work or a UIF payout. Was that money not real income? Appeal within 90 days. Send a bank statement. Add an affidavit that explains the payment.

Can I get SRD R370 if I have a job?

Only if you earn less than R624 a month in total. Take a full-time job and SASSA declines that month. Its SARS PAYE and bank checks pick the job up. Leave the job and your income drops. Once you are back under R624, the grant usually starts up the next month.

How do I appeal a declined SRD month?

Log in to srd.sassa.gov.za. Click “Appeals” for the month that was declined. Pick the decline reason. Then upload your proof. A bank statement works. So does a UIF closure letter or a fix from Home Affairs. You have 90 days from the decline date. ITSAA usually replies in 60 to 90 business days.

How often does SRD R370 pay?

Monthly, once your status is Approved. SASSA pays in batches from about the 24th of each month. Your own date shows on the SC19 status page. Has the money not come 2-3 working days after that date? Check your bank details, then call 0800 60 10 11.

Do I need to reapply every month?

No. You apply once at srd.sassa.gov.za. Each month SASSA checks your income. It also checks your UIF status and your Home Affairs record. Then it pays the R370. Only apply again if your file was cancelled. Or if you have never applied at all.
